Blushing Ovine Soap Company creates and blends natural soap & body products.  The majority of our soap is made with sheep's milk raised on our farm in East Tennessee. What is a Blushing Ovine?

   Today over a billion sheep are farmed world wide. They were one of the first animals to be domesticated some 1200 years ago in the area of what is now Iraq, second only to the dog. They are closely related to the Goat, Antelope, and Bison. The Latin term used for Sheep in scientific and medical writing is "OVINE".

   Our flock is comprised of the Tunis breed of sheep which originated in the province of Tunis in northern Africa, bordering on the Mediterranean Sea. While the origin of the breed is unknown it has existed in Africa for several centuries, and the first flocks were imported to the U.S. in 1799. 

   One of the most noticeable features of the Tunis is the beautiful red color on the face which lends to their beautiful "BLUSHING" appearance. 

   Now you know why we refer to our beautiful red headed sheep as the "Blushing Ovine".
